Territorialising Circularity

Abstract Nowadays, the circularity concept dominates debate on resource management in cities and territories. The idea is often used as a vehicle towards more sustainable socio-ecological transition, based circular economy (CE) framework. Unlike other sustainability frameworks, CE originates ecological environmental economics industrial ecology. It focuses developing an alternative economic technological model for production consumption, avoiding natural depletion redesigning processes cycles of materials (closed-loops). However, when translated to territories, its environmental, design agency neglected. On one hand, it demands acknowledge need relational understanding space, place actors involved and, other, explore spatial specificity CE. Therefore, there broader theoretical discourse CE’s territoriality predominant. Research urban territorial development than merely upscaling ecosystems diagrams generating businesses. Consequently, what role territory conceptualisation urbanism literature? How interpret territories through lens circularity, which tools, methods are needed? territory, meaning contribution regeneration key focus this text.
